Michel’s Cardigan & Pants

Commercial activity was paused for the entirety of 2024 to develop work without the constraint of price or time. All knitwear that year was made as gifts, taking as long as each piece needed to reach completion. This was the fourth sweater made as a gift, and first pair of pants, for Michel. “Mike” uses a wheelchair and was seeking custom made clothing to suit his body, prioritizing comfort and troubleshooting issues with wear and tear. Patches were added on the inside of the cuffs as a protective layer for the base structure of the knit because his sleeves had a tendency to fray as they are subject to constant friction as he manipulates the wheels of his chair. The pants were designed as “sitting pants”, to avoid bunching in the front and them riding too low in the back. His sense of style inspired the piece, which was a blend of contemporary skateboarder looks and old fashioned/“grandpa” aesthetics. The cardigan was made of organic colourgrown cotton and the pants were hand dyed linen and organic cotton blend, both knit on a retro hand operated knitting machine. Michel decided to wear the set to the Gala Gémeaux and in his short film, La Saison des Prix Nobel.
